A sweeping maritime view of the Dashing Wave entering San Francisco’s Golden Gate, rendered by celebrated marine artist John Stobart.

The composition places the great clipper under sail against the California coast, surrounded by smaller vessels and illuminated by Stobart’s characteristic atmospheric light. The print derives from Stobart’s 1973 painting of the subject, a monumental 30 × 48-inch oil depicting the nineteenth-century clipper entering San Francisco.

This example is signed in pencil by John Stobart and comes from the limited edition of 850 impressions.
