Etching and engraving on paper
Approximately 20.5 × 20.5 in.
A monumental 18th-century engraving after Jusepe de Ribera, called Lo Spagnoletto, produced for the Royal Gallery of Dresden.
Saint Francis reclines upon thorns as an angel descends above him, rendered through an exceptionally dense field of engraved line and shadow characteristic of the dramatic Ribera composition.
Inscribed in Italian and French beneath the image, identifying Ribera, the Royal Gallery of Dresden, Hutin and engraver Marco Alvise Pitteri. Plate II, No. 35.
Condition: Visible age-related water staining, particularly along the lower and right portions of the sheet, with additional signs of age and handling. The principal engraved image remains remarkably strong and detailed. Please refer to photographs.
Circa 1757.
